TRAFFIC
Ward 10 has grown tremendously over the past four years. The Ninth Line & Tenth Line corridors have become extremely busy. Unfortunately the flow of this increased traffic has not been managed well. For example, it’s virtually impossible to turn south onto Ninth Line from some feeder streets such as Erin Centre Blvd & Tacc Drive during peak hours. Traffic lights in these major intersections would be a great help. Mirza will conduct traffic studies to determine where additional stop signs, traffic lights and other traffic signs are necessary.
PROPERTY TAXES
Taxes must be stable and more importantly predictable. Constituents must be informed well in advance of any new levy that is absolutely necessary. People are on a budget, the city must not randomly add a levy without ample notice. Mirza believes the primary source of additional income for the city should come through the identification and elimination of wasteful spending not by increases in our taxes.
PARKS & RECREATION
Soccer fields, cricket pitches, tennis courts, walking trails, splash pads & children’s playgrounds need to be built in the newly developed areas. A dog park is also required in Churchill Meadows & Lisgar. Mirza will not only ensure that these facilities are built but also maintained well.
It’s been four years since our ward was created and we still don’t have a community centre of our own. Right next to us, Ward 9 has two community centres, Meadowvale Community Center & Erin Meadows. Our residents pay the same amount of taxes, we should at least have one. Mirza will get the work started as soon as possible on a community centre in Ward 10.
CITY PLANNING
The newly acquired land from Milton (Ninth Line Corridor) has to be planned and managed with input from the community not by decisions made independently by politicians in City Hall. Mississauga is a highly multicultural city and Ward 10 reflects this diversity. City Hall has to be sensitive to their needs as the acquired land is planned. Mirza will consult with the community before making any decision with regards to the development of this land.
SAFETY
Speeding is a grave problem in our ward. It is such a big concern that there was a fatality earlier this year as a result of a speeding vehicle. Mirza will look into effective solutions to slow down our traffic such as speed breakers, round abouts, increased police patrols, etc.
Coyotes inhabit our neighbourhood. There have been many reports of packs of them making way on to our streets. This is a hazard to young children who ride their bikes and play during the evenings. Mirza will ensure that there is a proper barrier between the woods where coyotes dwell and our streets.
TRANSIT
Current transit scheduling and routes are not efficient. Buses should be more frequent during peak hours and less frequent during slow periods. More shuttle routes should be created from all neighbourhoods to Go Stations and high schools within the area. Mirza will fight to improve our transit system.
I pledge to bring new ideas, strong work ethics and a fresh approach to City Hall.
